  • "One of our customers screamed at me for ‘ruining her daughter's birthday’ because we ran out of a specific cake flavor

I (19F) work at a bakery. We make fresh cakes daily but popular flavors sell out sometimes especially on weekends.
  • Yesterday a woman came in at 6pm (we close at 7pm) wanting a chocolate fudge cake for her daughters birthday.
  • We were completely sold out of chocolate fudge but had plenty of other flavors. I apologized and offered her chocolate marble, vanilla, red velvet, or she could place an order for tomorrow.
  • She said no, she needs chocolate fudge TODAY for her daughters birthday party happening in 2 hours.
  • I explained again that we're sold out but I can check if our other location has any.
  • I called and they were also sold out. She started getting loud saying "this is unacceptable, its my daughters birthday!" I said I'm really sorry but I cant make a cake appear.
  • She demanded to speak to my manager. My manager said the same thing - we're sold out but happy to offer alternatives.
  • a woman holding her fists up in the air
  • She started screaming that we "ruined her daughters birthday" and that we should have "saved one for her." My manager explained we dont take reservations for walk-ins and that she should have called ahead or pre-ordered.
  • The woman said "I shouldn't HAVE to plan ahead, you should just have enough!" She left without buying anything and posted a 1-star review saying we "destroyed a child's birthday." Like ma'am, we're a bakery not miracle workers
  • sitnquiet I always hate this. "YOU made me suffer the consequences of my poor planning! YOU are to blame!"
  • OP Capable_Act_3510 Exactly right?? Why blame others for your lack of responsibility and discipline when it comes to planning? I don't understand.
  • Ranger_Ecstatic Some shops should have a poster or a placard. "Poor planning on your part, doesn't constitute an emergency on my part"
  • TheRealCarpeFelis "How DARE you not read my mind in advance and save me the cake I wanted!" The entitlement is mind boggling. The manager should have called the cops on her when she started screaming.
  • ProfessionalYam3119 That really takes the cake!
  • bkuefner1973 I hope the manager response to the 1 star review with this!
  • Aggravating-Sock6502 Any way your boss can reply to the review: "This bakery is not responsible for bad parenting. And forgetting to pre order a cake for your kid's birthday sounds a lot like bad parenting. Have a nice life and please don't come back."
